Welcome to Keystone Learning Academy
We are an independent non-profit agency offering year round child care services for children ages 6 weeks – 11 years through our Infant & Toddler, Preschool, and School Age programs.
We are accredited by the National Accreditation Commission for the Association of Early Learning Leaders and licensed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and are a recognized Metro United Way Excellence Academy. According to Metro United Way, students who participate in the Excellence Academy score higher on measures of physical, language, cognitive, and socio-emotional competencies compared to their peers.
Keystone Learning Academy was originally founded in 1970 as the California Area Family Development Center. The organization was formed from humble beginnings in the basement of the Community Action Agency in the California neighborhood of Louisville at 1600 W. St. Catherine St. Its purpose then was to provide safe and loving child care to families in need. Although the Center has grown, relocated, and is now known as the Keystone Learning Academy, those founding principles remain.
Today, along with the support of the Metro United Way the school incorporates the Reggio Emilia curriculum, which is recognized world-wide for its innovative approach to education. In this approach, the classroom is thought of as the "third teacher" and includes elements like neutral colors, home-like touches, natural materials and intentional invitations to learn, so children's curiosity can develop organically within a supportive environment.
